Okay, now on to the review.
A few weeks back Vegan Cuts asked me if I was interested in doing a product review. I love trying new vegan things so how could I say no? The products my family received to taste test were the JEM line of raw organic nut butters and chocolates. My parents were visiting so we made a little taste testing party out of it. The butters are all good and we all had a different favorite!
Things we liked about the Jem product line as a whole: Organic, raw, and low sodium.
The first one we tried was the Maqui Camu Super Berry Almond Butter. It was a little on the runny side more like the consistency of a sauce for ice cream than a spread. The subtly sweet flavor of the berries was nice, not overpowering. It was like peanut butter and jelly in one jar. This was my mom’s favorite of the four.
We then moved on to the Chocolate Hazelnut. We all use to love that commercial chocolate hazelnut spread and Jem’s blows it away! It has a thick consistency and a rich flavor. I loved the fact that it is made of all healthy ingredients and taste so good that you just assume it must be bad for you. This was Hubby’s favorite of the bunch and he is already planning a shake concoction with it. I can’t wait!
Next up was the Cinammon Red Maca Almond Butter. I had no idea what Red Maca was until reading about it to write this. It helps reduce stress, raise stamina and is an aphrodisiac. Well this is definitely a jar of sexy and it was my favorite of the group. It reminded my mom of the cinnamon almonds she ate in Europe as a kid and the little vegan swore it tasted like French toast. Oh and it’s consistency was more like regular peanut butter.
The last butter was the Coconut Cardamom Almond Butter. This was the most unusual of the four. My dad and I loved it for its intense, interesting flavor palate. My mom who dislikes cardamom couldn’t give hers away quick enough. Hubby thought it was strange and the little one thought it was spicy. This butter is more savory than sweet and I look forward to using it in a dipping sauce similar to a satay. My dad who loves when he can experience a taste he has never had, found this one to be his favorite and wants to be there when I create something with it.
The people at JEM also sent us some of their chocolate. They were rich and flavorful without being overly bitter. Those of you that appreciate dark chocolate will love these. My parents especially loved the little disk with vanilla and coffee shavings.
Over all they the products were something special, made with great ingredients. They are a little on the pricey side for my family to use in place of their usual nut butter habit but I know we will be keeping the hazelnut almond butter around for those days we just need to indulge. I also want to use the cinnamon as a base for a cake filling. Treat yourself or use it for a gift for the holidays. I know I would love to receive them!
