My family is sitting here this evening a little overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity we experienced today. Thanks for all the support and words of encouragement. Thanks to Wayward for sticking up for the Girl Scouts motives with your misinformed customer and their negativity, you won us over, once again! Also thanks to your staff who were awesome!! One more thanks to our internet friends who have asked to donate to the troop, it has left us speechless. A big hug to each and every one of you!
The cakes all sold out. We raised $180. Half went to the Pigs Peace Sanctuary and half to the little vegan’s troop. Last year the entire troop only raised $90 from the cookie sale!
The little vegan is so fortunate to have the opportunity to grow up surrounded by a community of such compassionate humans. We were able to get the word out and now maybe others will be willing to follow suite. Hmm…Maybe next year we could get all Seattle vegan girl scouts together for a massive bake sale, heck better yet maybe vegans across the country whose troops go through Little Brownie Bakery to show them there is a need to sell vegan cookies! We will address that next year. Tell your friends.
As parents we are also very proud of the little vegan who at seven had the courage to be different from her friends. She helped with the entire process from baking the cakes to selling them. We think she learned a lot, especially about what may be achieved when you are are willing to stand up for your beliefs. If you were inspired by this little piece of activism and would like to get involved, write to one or all of the following and tell them what you think.

As a mother of 2 girls, I can totally relate to the position you found yourself in. So many times, our girls’ beliefs didn’t fit in with the norm of school or groups they were in. It was so hard for them to be “different.” You found a way to turn this into such a great lesson for your daughter, and for everyone around her. How lucky she is to have you as her mother. She’ll go far in life, thanks to you and the example you’ve set for her. Thank you from all of us for showing us the way!
Thank you for your words of kindness. That is went great thing about this blog, the sharing of information and working through the obstacles together! 🙂
I was SO sorry to miss out on the bake sale. I found out about it too late. Please do it again and I hope to have more advanced notice! 🙂
Samantha, I don’t think we will have time for another one but we will be back at cookie time next year!!
Your ‘Cookie’s and Cream’ cake was so awesome, and it was so great to have vegan desserts after lunch at Wayward! Way to go on the fundraising. Thanks for letting us know about such a great site.
Glad it came out good. I didn’t get a chance to try any of them. Thanks for supporting!
